Air journey is considered to be the safest mode of journey. But multiple painful accidents are also recorded in its history. A look at the world's biggest air accidents

In the Privious 30 years, the world witnessed 720 aeroplane crashes, where the death risk from crashes in the mountainous country is the topmost. The situation degenerated with another recent airline crash in Nepal, with at least 69 of the 72 passengers dying onboard in the Yeti Airlines flight 691. This had been Nepal’s third deadliest flight disaster in the last three decades. 

 

 all around, Nepal ranked 33 out of the 207 countries grounded on the number of airplane crashes with 52 airplane crashes, India ranking at 13 with 99 airplane crashes, and the US beating the list with,578 airplane crashes, followed by Russia( 464 airplane crashes) and Canada( 369 airplane crashes) in 30 years.  1. The biggest airplane crash happen on 27 March 1977 when two airplanes collided with each other on the runway at the airport of the Spanish island of Tenerife. 583 people were killed in this collision between two Boeing 747 airplanes.

2. In terms of death risk, the accident that happen on May 25, 1979, in Illinois, USA is number 10 in the biggest accidents. American Airlines Flight 191 crashed minutes after takeoff from Chicago, killing all 258 people on board, 13 crew members, and two people on the ground.

3. February 19 In 2003, a major airplane crash took place in which all 275 people on board were killed. The airplane was carrying soldiers of the Revolutionary Guards of Iran. 


 4. On 3 July 1988, an Iran Air flight was shot down by the US Navy over the Strait of Hormuz, killing all 290 people on board. The US government said that its Navy had mistaken the airplane for a fighter airplane. This flight going from Tehran to Dubai wasn't on a regular route.

 5. On 17 July 2014, a Malaysia Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. All 283 passengers and 15 crew members aboard the airplane were killed. The Dutch Safety Board in its investigation in 2015 said that the airplane was brought down by a Bak face-to-air missile by-Russian rebels.

 6. On August 12, 1985, an aircraft of Japan Airlines fell victim to an accident about 100 kilometers away from the capital Tokyo. A total of 520 people were killed in this accident, including 509 passengers and 15 crew members. 


 7. The third most painful accident in the history of air accidents took place in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana when the airplanes of Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan collided in the sky. 349 people aboard both airplanes were killed in the accident.

8. On March 3, 1974, a Turkish Airlines airplane crashed in the forestland near Paris. All 346 people in the chamber of the airplane were killed in the accident. 

 

 9. The day of 23 June 1985 was a painful day in the history of Air India when one of its aircraft was bombed in the sky of Ireland at an altitude of 31 thousand feet from the ground. In this, 329 people including 22 crew members were killed. Canada's investigation blamed members of the Sikh separatist association Babbar Khalsa for this.
